Efficiency in Working From Home
Chapter 1: Introduction – Working From Home is What You Make of It
So, you’re stuck working from home? There are now two ways this can go.
One option is that you work like so many other people who are confined to home offices. That means you’ll spend a huge chunk of your day procrastinating before you actually get anything done. This may lead to work spilling over into your evening.
You’ll go to bed with work still on your plate, feeling stressed and behind. Meaning you’ll wake up the next day and start work in your pajamas.
Without someone looking over your shoulder or structuring your day, it’s all too easy to fall into bad habits. You make yourself that morning cup of coffee, you check your emails, you read Facebook. And then you neglect to shave! It feels like liberation at first and it’s a great feeling not having to rush out of the door.
But as a result, you end up with no structure. You spend all of your day “half-working.” You spend all your time cooped up in one room. Your work life bleeds into your downtime and you end up falling behind in all kinds of aspects of your productivity and your personal life.
So what is the other option?
The other option is that you grasp this opportunity with both hands. That you apply a little strategy and discipline. Most importantly, you have the right thinking to help you tackle this unique challenge as best as you can.
And what’s that all about?
You can now complete the work of your day in less time. Because let’s face this: most of us spent hours chatting around the cooler water in the office.
It means that you don’t have a journey either, which means that you probably just get an extra 2-4 hours each day.
You will be working in a smart and organized office that is specially designed to help you feel productive at work. Then relax and relax properly with people and things that you love at night.
The best thing is that you can start using a small ‘lifestyle’ design, which means you can work as you want and working the time you like from various places. Why don’t you do extra work all week long to get Fridays off? (It also means that when it’s much quieter, you can now go to the bank and hairdryer.)
Why don’t you stop working (if possible) in your home office and then go to a cafe? Or even looking at a beautiful local attraction? Why not work out of your garden, is it not an alternative to go out?
All this is possible if you’re working from home – independent or large-scale. All you need to do is approach it properly and correctly.
And that’s exactly what in this ebook will explore.
Read this book, and you’ll discover that you can do the best thing from home. You will be more productive, gain more, and have spare time to work on your self-development, your hobbies, and the truly important things for you.
The point is to get to the right mentality and to learn to be productive when no one is pressuring you to do whatever you can to remain in your work.
Chapter 2: How to Structure Your Working Day to Get More Done
The way you structure your day at home can make a big difference in your ability to do a lot of work. You might find yourself allowing yourself a little extra luxury and time when you have no manager who leans over you. That might in turn mean that you finally go so far as to fall behind you before you even started.
Some rules are the solution. These may look a little arbitrary, but we will see that they can offer you a structure and discipline to do a lot more.
Eat the Frog Whole
The first thing we’re going to talk about is a quote from Mark Twain that says, “Eating the Whole Frog.”
If it’s your job to eat a frog, then first thing in the morning, you should eat that. You should first eat the biggest and hottest one if you have two frogs to eat.
You have to change your job, too.
Basically, what he says here is that first, you should do the largest and most ugly task.
You should sit down and do it before you do anything else. If your day starts and you have 5,000 words to write. Before you reply to any emails, before you do anything or smaller tasks, attend to writng 5,000 words first.
This is important because it means that you give the fastest possible value. The biggest task is probably the one that pays you the most, which is most important for customers. It means it doesn’t hang on you anymore as well.
And if you have no time at the end of the day, it’s far easier to fit into something small that you want to do than to fit into something huge that you don’t want to do.
So get it out of the way instead of putting it off. It also functions as a great workout; it builds great habits.
That is why it is so annoying to talk and send emails every two minutes when customers want to change the targets.
If you want to do something for professionals, it is this – if you pay them for something, just let them do it.
You can be as productive as possible with this simple rule. However, this rule has exceptions.
The 1-Minute Rule
You should tick this as quickly as possible if you need to complete a task that will take only one minute.
It is very common for people working from home to get overwhelmed and exhausted. Although there are several reasons, one of the biggest is just trying to manage their time when they have a big deal to do. How can you keep up with all the tasks you have when nobody can help structure your day?
Tim Ferriss calls “open loops” the kind of small tasks you have in mind.
For example, you might have an email to reply to but you are postponing (because the customer is perhaps uncomfortable) or have something on your website to fix.
It takes one minute or less for these jobs, but you put them off because:
a.) You’ve got that other important pressing job to do
b.) They are emotionally stressful – so you’d better bury your head in the sand.
But here’s the thing. These problems won’t disappear. The longer they hang over you, the more stress and anxiety they will cause.
You should only do it immediately, in other words. It won’t really eat in your day if you take one minute. But one thing is less on your mind once they’re done. And it’s so much easier to focus only on the work you have to do.
Your tasks and the things that you need to do around the house do not just apply to your work.
For instance, if you have dishes that you have just eaten off of, then put them in the sink and get back to work.
When you work in-depth, that’s the exception to the one-minute rule. You should not allow small things such as emails to steal your attention if you are working very focused on accomplishing a particular job or goal.
So when you stop writing an article in your big essay, you will break free of flow and struggle to get back to it as soon as you try. (That said, this is something you can train with time.)
My advice is to turn off every note, shut your doors, and put headphones to cancel noise. You do not break the one-minute rule, because after you have finished the major job, you will not be aware of the new task.
All right, but what about the jobs which take 2 to 3 minutes? What about them? What about twenty minutes?
Well, jobs which are big enough to be seen as actual tasks are just queued in descending order behind your one big task. First, the largest and hottest “frog” and the second largest and hottest frog will be finished.
The best option for those who struggle with to-dos is to add them to the to-do list. Once you do this, you remove them from the headspace so that you concentrate more on the big task. The best part is that you can now set a time to tackle these issues within your day.
For example, at the end of every working day, you can spend 20 minutes ensuring that you work with small doors. It means you’re never going to stack up and get overwhelmed, and you never forget something stressful.
These rules are of course not laid down in stone. Different people work differently and depend on the type of job you prefer the best strategy for you.
But the key thing is that you can ensure that you are not overwhelmed by tasks as they come in by using strict regulations. This allows you to work for a longer time and to prevent your work from spilling over into your downtime. You can change your game and numerous professionals have proven this specific set of rules highly effective.
Chapter 3: Productivity Hacks: How to Motivate Yourself to Work
Naturally, it isn’t always easy to sit down and do the hardest and biggest thing first. It is one thing to lay down rules for your work, but it is another thing to stay with them. How do you ensure with so much to do that you stay and do it?
Especially if a good book and a hot drink are easy to take and then retire to the sleeper right at the corner. You need certain productivity hacks here.

Setting Rewards for Yourself
For example, if you normally start to have a coffee and then browse emails and have a cheeky look at Facebook, that must change.
It’s about half nine and you didn’t do anything so far. This is a deflationary way to begin your day.
Instead, sit down, eat the frog, and start writing the huge project, o finishing the big data entry task. But then set yourself a destination for the first work chunk (possibly N data row number). You can go to have your coffee at this point. And then you can go and respond to those emails when you complete another piece of work that you set as a goal.
At 9:30 a.m. you’ve done an enormous amount of your work already and you will, therefore, feel much better about yourself. Moreover, you often get to be even more advanced. You complete the 20 rows of information and then think. Just before the coffee, why not do ten more?
And that means that you’re going to drink less coffee, too. If you’re like me anyway, this is no bad thing.
You can also encourage yourself to dive into your biggest task directly by leaving a project incomplete the day before. Leaving work unfinished now, can sound rather counter-intuitive. Most of us think that when we finish the day, we should try polishing everything.
But in fact, if you know that tomorrow you have 3,000 words to write, try writing 400 words before the day’s end. So you don’t leave your work unfinished, you’re not finishing any less than today. Everything you do is start the project for tomorrow.
First of all, this means that in the morning you do not have to begin a new project first. Looking at a white screen is one of many people’s most jarring and hard tasks.
This means, at the same time, that you have an emotional urge to do this. Our brains hate to stop working – it makes us itchy. And the fact that you’re on your desktop with an open and unfinished task means you will be much more likely to just stick into it.
Overcoming Writers’ Block
But what if this luxury isn’t available to you? What if the day before, you didn’t get the opportunity to start work?
To stand on a blank screen is difficult for anybody. Nothing affects writers worse than a writer’s block.
So I can give you another great piece of advice. Just start the coding. Just begin to write. Just begin to design.
Even if your work quality seems poor. Even if you feel slow and sluggish and you don’t know if high-quality is what you produce, just work and work.
What this is going to do is help you get into the stream. Now you can always go back and see if your writings were all right. To enter the “flow” state, you only have to overcome that initial resistance to become productive.
And that’s a good workout again. It’s good customs. And in the future, it will help you not get stuck.
Anything else you can do is concentrate on how you spend your time in preparation between work. You can still “work” in your head if you make cops, if you are stuck in traffic, and if you are in queues.
Now it is very important that you allow the right downtime. Resting properly and having fun will make you more productive in the last few days. The goal is therefore not to do so all weekends or nights.
But if you’ve got a great deal to complete and have the chance, why not think of the project?
And now, you will find that it flows much easier when you sit down on a computer, and much more work is done.
You also spend time listening to videos on things for your project you need to know. For example, if you are a blogger, why not listen to the videos and find out how you’ll write your post?
If you love what you do, it works really well. If you like the work you do, it won’t really feel like working anyway.
The concept described by Tim Ferriss which is preparation and collection is also similar.
Prepare and collect describes how you can set the productivity requirements before the work is actually required and then simply execute on your schedule when the time comes.
In the case of a Kickstarter campaign, Ferriss gives in his blog. Instead of starting your camp and having emails written, call and chase leads for the next few days. In the days leading up to the launch, you would write all the emails and all the marketing material you need. You can then put these emails and marketing messages on some type of auto-planner, and just let the marketing campaign itself go live.
The reason this works so well is that you can’t fail to finish the job you need. Nothing can “grow up” and get in the way because everything is done already.
And for all the research you do, any work you have to do is much easier. You do this when you are working from home. In the days leading to large projects, you spend the time working and you think of what you need and how to do exactly. Then when the time comes, you can be optimally productive.
The idea of “Productive Meditation” is a more important concept to discuss in the book “Deep Work.” It is a form of meditation in which a certain project or problem is “meditated.” This is ideal while walking zombies or otherwise menial tasks are performed. And it has the added bonus that your brain is very good.
Finally, if you want to be productive when working from home, the most important thing you have to create is accountability. At home, you may be browsing Facebook too long or wondering whether you want to raid the refrigerator.
Why is that at home rather than in the office Simple. People watch you at the office to make sure that you don’t. Your manager could also walk around to see how much work you have done. That’s how you are responsible.
At home, until it’s right, you don’t have to show your work. So, before you’re supposed to hand it in, you can easily put it off. This means, of course, a mad dash at the end of the day which ultimately unravels your work.
One way to reintroduce these responsibilities is by using applications, websites, or even agreements with friends and family. Many people are asking their partners to check how much work they have done and to “punish” them if the job is not finished.
This is not personally feasible, nor especially good for the long term. Instead, you set strict deadlines to create natural incentives and accountabilities. Speak to your boss and customer and tell them that you will give them your work each day. If you have a project of 10 days, then you will give them an incomprehensive version of the work, so that they can see how it happens.
It might appear to dig your own sepulcher or make your own life wretched. At the end of the day, however, you will have to stay tuned and your day will be organized.
Now you know that 4,000 words must be written daily or 20 lines of code written (or adding an X function). You know that you have 5 data rows to complete.
In turn, this means that you do not have the option to defer your work until the last day. This doesn’t mean “half work,” twisting your thumbs.
More importantly, it means you can find yourself free time when you complete your work early – by spending time working faster. Now is the free time because at the end of the week you have no abstract goal.
Now you have choices: work more and get more money, work more today and take off tomorrow, or just relax early on.
Not only does this give you a specific goal, but it also helps you stay with it. This is when the incredible advantages of working at home come to light.
Chapter 4: Finding the Inspiration (The Key to Incredible Productivity)
The key is to be passionate about your work and inspired. It is not motivated by inspiration. Even if you don’t want to work, motivation can drive you. Inspiration, however, means that you have ideas as to how your project works. It means visualizing them once they have been completed and wanting to go back to work to carry them out.
When you’re inspired by work, it’s inherently motivating. That means you want to do it for your own sake. One way is to ponder what type of work you are doing. If you find yourself having tasks that are always high or boring or that you can not be excited about, it may be time to see whether you are on the right path.
Do you believe that you have to change jobs? Because when you find a job you really like, you will be immediately more productive and better at work.
Now, of course, changes in jobs are not an option for everyone. This luxury may not even be yours to decide for. Furthermore, even if you love your work, there are still tasks and jobs you don’t like. Nobody loves every part of their work.
Try to see what you do then and make it even more interesting. So find a way to play it or make it more enthusiastic when there’s a certain task. Look at more inspiring examples of your work. Try the craft and the arts that can best be illustrated, and find a way to create something of which you can be proud and enthusiastic.
Back to the author’s example, it becomes difficult to reach specific scenes with the block for many authors. You ‘stuck’ yourself on the scene and lurk around it. Eventually, they are pushed through.
So why have they been stuck first, and what can they learn from it and from you?
The scene is less interesting or more exciting in the book, in many cases. It is often a display scene or two characters from speakers. This isn’t the way forward. Consider it: think of how dull to read if to write is so boring.
The answer is to change the scene to make it more interesting and read it. Maybe you can put the showcase in a more interesting spot, play chess or put a ticking time bomb beneath your table to add tension. This scene is all of a sudden easier to write.
This can be used for many different awkward tasks. A website assigned to you that really doesn’t feel like everything you want to build. Then think about ways to go beyond design to something really special. You will do more work because you want to work on it. The result will be more satisfying for the customer.
The entry of data? This is much harder but can help you become much more interested when you consider it to be a challenge and think about how focused you can be.
If you love what you do, you will be more than glad to spend extra time.
Chapter 5: Your Health and Wellness Optimization
Other challenges also come with working from home. You need not make too many considerations on your grooming, and your well-being may be compromised.
There is no incentive to dress well if you don’t leave the house to go to work. There is no need to wash if nobody sees you for days.
And when you can get up and work at any time you want, nothing stops you from losing all appearance of routine and health.
Moreover, there’s no guarantee you’ll get fresh air or practice because you don’t have to go to work. All of these problems are serious, as they can harm your health and well-being.
When you’re working, you may even find yourself eating badly while grabbing anything fast and stuffing it in a microwave.
All this leads to your fatigue, your demotivation, and your lack of focus. Focusing on and staying motivated also demands energy and you must also be healthy to resist temptations and distractions.
Briefly, you will struggle to focus if you don’t take care of yourself outside the workplace when you sit on the computer.
You can focus more on optimizing your health because focusing requires energy. You will get the right time to rest and recover with a disciplined routine. And taking time to groom up and look your best helps you to be productive and professional (and therefore to become) more.
Getting proper downtime and rest are some of the most important things to consider. Optimize productivity and efficiency by ensuring you have adequate downtime and rest. Consider this as the productivity “yin to yang.”
What many people don’t know about this is their energy-based effort and focus. Your energy is a limited resource.
You may feel tempted to work longer hours to do more when you work from home. Because your office is in the same house, you can put your customer, earn more money, and make tomorrow less stressful very easily in one hour.
Wait what? However, if you do, you will start to get tired tomorrow and will get less work done.
We tend to believe that working late will help us to achieve more, but studies show that the work we have done at the moment is of lower quality and is far less urgent than we can imagine.
This is why it is so important to distinguish clearly between “work time” and “downtime.” You can only come back to the job the next day by resting properly, which also means forgetting the stressful aspects of your job.
This means you must stop working at 5 p.m. Even when there is still work to do (or whatever you designated at the end of your day).
And it means you must stop viewing emails for your work. Many apps such as Slack can turn notifications off outside business hours. But you also have two telephones – one for work and one to do things.
It is also important for you to enjoy things you like to do during your downtime. This means to read books, play games, chat with friends, and watch films.
One reason we feel distracted at work is that our brain wants to stimulate and enjoy. You will find it difficult to turn off and focus on work in working hours if you have no set time to enjoy those things planned. You have to “go out of your system” to put it that way.
Grooming and Self-Maintenance
Part of this separation of work and place is when you sit down to get work done with the right clothes. This makes an enormous difference because it makes you feel like working once you’re productive.
Have you ever heard the “job dress” message? Therefore, you are most likely to concentrate on your task by being more productive and less likely to sit down and play video games.
Your brain matches a particular way of thinking and working. It is equally important that you keep shaving, washing, and dressing for some time.
This helps you to be as productive as possible at the beginning of your day.
Dealing With Loneliness
There are many more problems we still have to tackle with online work. Loneliness is one of the largest, which many of us do not expect before going into this company. You can feel like a breath of fresh air when you start working from your home comfortably and get off to travels and office politics. But after that, you may begin to miss the camaraderie that works with others when you hear about Christmas parties of your friends and their office romances.
And when you sit down there taping away for most days, you can even get pretty bored by the lack of people to speak with you. The answers? Spend your time working in cafes (unless you can sit in your garden and give people a hat as they walk around), meet friends while you have lunch (or call them), or do more in the evenings.
General Health
Additional health factors are also critical if you want to optimize your productivity during your work at home.
It’s very important, for instance, to get sufficient time outside. It’s very easy to spend days without walking or getting sunlight when working from your home.
It is extremely unsanitary to spend no time walking. Studies show that our lives can actually be reduced. This is because of a lack of heart exercise, which then atrophies and weakens, which puts us in serious danger of cardiac disease and many other problems. At the time of sitting too long, there are numerous changes in the body, which lead to problems such as kyphosis and back pain, as well as anterior pelvic tilt.
Likewise, for all of our mood, productivity, and weight, sunlight is crucial. Sunlight compels the body to produce vitamin D that actually works more like a “master hormone” than vitamin and regulates testosterone production, growth hormone production, and more.
Not only is your mental and bone density lacking vitamin D awful, but it also prevents you from sleeping correctly. So you wake up to be more fatigued and less focussed the next day.
It is important therefore to balance the time you spend working indoors with plenty of time outside. Even if this just means you’re skipping or walking around the block. You simply can’t spend your entire life on your four walls or see your body and your mind begins to worsen.
TIP: The ability to spend too long in one position in more than an area around the home can help you avoid certain problems, such as trying to work on the sleeping couch or working on the floor.
Finally, make sure you sleep properly and restored. How well you sleep will greatly influence your ability to concentrate and work the next day. It is essential to get more sunlight and new air during the day because once you finish the day, you can switch off enough from the work you do.
Fitness and Strength Training
Walking and jogging in terms of workout are two options that help to improve cardiovascular fitness and to eliminate a lot of damage caused by long hours at a desk.
However, strength training is also an excellent idea. You will reduce the risk of injury, speed up your metabolism, and actually make you feel sharper and wider at work.
“Functional fitness” is the best type of strength training. It’s strength training that helps us to reintroduce and regain the lost movement patterns with which we came into being. For example, you may be able to squat to the floor or lift your arms over your head.
You’ll see that they can do these things easily. Try to watch a young baby. As such, they are moving with more energy, vigor, and painless. But you probably are tight, limited, and painful if you have spent the last ten years working at a desk.
For this too, yoga, animal movements, and other “motional training” types are especially good. In many ways, Kettlebell training combines the advantages of strength training with mobility training.
Various people are going to take various training types, so try it and see what is most good about you.
Working first in the morning is a great way to also make you feel more fruitful and ready to deal with the day before.
Exercise itself stimulates the production of the good feeling of the hormone serotonin and increases metabolism. Both of these things can help you to make your work happier and efficient.
Chapter 6: Creating the Perfect Home Office
Your ally, working at home, is your home office to keep productivity and health. If space is limited, then you should design an office separate from the rest of your home, if any way is possible.
This is very important because it will make it possible for you to step in and out of your “working mode.” It will make your life much more difficult to separate from your downtimes, which have harmful effects on your sleep.
You can do more to make a home office also ideal for productivity.
Inspiration
One powerful tip: To inspire you and make you feel more productive in your office. These could be the best work in your niche or industry or the photos of your heroes and those who inspire you.
Cal Newport talks about this in his book Deep Work (which I mentioned previously). Here he discusses the idea of the ‘Eudaimonia Machine,’ which was built by architects to achieve the highest possible productivity.
Museums full of inspiring works are part of this design. I am very much concerned about that and believe that overall productivity can make a huge difference.
This is connected to the psychological concept of “priming.” Primarily means putting somebody in the spirit that is most favorable to any task and connected with memory.
For example, you may spend twenty minutes to compliment someone to “prime” them, and give them chocolate to put them in a good mood. You might put them in an area with lots of fruit if you want to influence someone’s answers to the inkblot test.
This room should be the same, but will rather put you in a mood to do productive work.
Organization
For remote collaboration, the best tools are
- Zoom (www.zoom.us)
- Slack (www.slack.com)
- Asana (www.asana.com)
Other powerful tools include:
- Google Drive (https://drive.google.com)
- Workplace (https://work.facebook.com)
Zoom is an app for remote meetings that is helpful for teleconferencing. To have a proper discussion about the kind of work that you must do or to secure a contract, you sometimes need to meet someone face to face. In these cases, Zoom is extremely easy to install, it has many features ( e.g., the capability to record calls) and is the industry standard for remote calls (where a person you talk to is not there).
Slack is designed to replace the kinds of informal interactions that you may have had in an office before. It’s a little like WhatsApp for business, so it’s perfect if you’re asked quickly or want to say, “Hi.”
Asana is a tool for project management that allows you to work with a workforce. You can assign jobs, view updates, and even attach files to various members of the team. Trello and Basecamp like others are alternatives.
Facebook is a workplace for businesses, while Google Drive is the ideal place to cooperate on paperwork.
Chapter 7: The Best Productivity Apps and Gadgets for Working From Home
Maybe the most productive of all is the use of productivity apps and tools for your office. Numerous services, applications, and products are specifically designed to help you achieve more work, and these can make an enormous difference in your ability to remain on the job and work with others worldwide.
Many of these applications are particularly important as you begin working from home, while others will give you a great advantage and help you avoid confusion, mistakes, and distractions.

Personal Workflow
We discussed a lot about the power of to-do lists in this eBook, so one of the most powerful home-building tools should come as no surprise.
Todoist, a powerful to-do app with natural language interpretation (www.todoist.com). This means that you can type or even dictate “send an email every Monday to X customer” and it automatically creates one recurring task with a due date every Monday.
You can also work with teams through the assignment of tasks to others. Tasks can be categorized nicely and many integrations with other important applications such as Google Calendar are available.
For personal workflow, note-taking applications are equally important. The most powerful of these is probably the Notion app. Notion is an app that allows you to create and organize the pages of notes in a hierarchy as normal as any other.
However, the most impressive thing about Notion is that in your notes you can link to other pages, create tables, and incorporate videos and pictures. It’s almost like a competing content management system, and what we can do is scratch the surface.
The concept can develop into a second brain and adapt to your working style. You will find that it is extremely efficient once you get used to using it.
Finally, a Freedom app (www.freedom.to) is strongly recommended. Freedom allows you to block certain websites and applications on your telephone or computer, helping to prevent distractions.
How much more work can you do if you don’t have to fight to look at Facebook?
It is also advisable that you familiarize yourself with administrative applications and tools such as PayPal (www.paypal.com) and DocuSign (www.docusign.com) to receive your signatures.
CChapter 8: The Best Online Jobs
You might read this book because you had to start working from home under circumstances. There’s also a chance, however, that you read it prospectively because you want to start working from home.
I hope that with the right thinking, you saw that your lifestyle could have an enormously positive influence. Or perhaps you have been forced to work from home recently and are thinking about the other types of work that you can do.
Why not change to a workplace more appropriate to the new way of working?
The great news is that more organizations are starting to hire online and that the process is being streamlined with countless apps and services.
In short, keeping productive online workflows is now easier than ever and the number of online jobs is growing rapidly.
Before we begin to list the top online jobs, it should be noted that the top online jobs fall in one of three categories in general:
- Employment
- Gig economy
- Passive income
In other words, you can find an enterprise for which you can work but send your work remotely or you can sell your skills freelance to online customers.
There can be many job roles in one of these categories. You could, for instance, work as a programmer making apps for direct sales to users (passive income), code for customers working on apps (gig economies), or work remotely as a full-time employee for a software company (employment).
Additional jobs are only in one of those categories or are more suitable for a particular modality.
Here are the best online jobs you can get right now:
Copywriter
Writing means writing website content, publicity campaigns, and packaging. This content is intended for a certain purpose and is needed in large quantities by online businesses.
Copywriting works and freelance work, in particular, offering great flexibility in finding work and completing project work at your own time. You must be able to write fast and professionally.
Much of this writing is going to be written ghost, which means that it will not be your name. It’s not especially highly paid, but it can provide a stable income if you work quickly.
